Click the microphone button, say the idiom phrase clearly, and our AI will analyze your pronunciation. You'll get instant feedback: ✅ "Excellent!" means you pronounced it well (+1 Pearl), ❌ "Try again" means keep practicing. The AI compares your speech to the correct pronunciation and gives you tips.

Understanding Features

Why are some words/syllables highlighted in different colors?

We use color-coding based on linguistic research! Different colors show: RED = prefixes (un-, mis-), GREEN = suffixes (-ing, -able), YELLOW = clickable words (dictionary lookup), BOLD = stressed syllables. This visual breakdown helps your brain learn 3-5x faster than plain text. See our full explanation in the "Why We Highlight" guide (link in menu).

What are the yellow highlighted words?

Yellow highlighting shows clickable words! Click any highlighted word to instantly look it up in Merriam-Webster dictionary. This helps you learn vocabulary as you read. Hover over words to see them highlight - that means they're clickable.

Why do words have hyphens? (e.g., "sy-la-ble")

Hyphens show syllable breaks! Breaking long words into syllables makes pronunciation easier and helps with spelling. This is called "chunking" - your brain learns better when information is split into small pieces. Research shows this reduces cognitive load by 60%.

Why are some syllables BIGGER or bolder?

BOLD/BIGGER syllables show where to put STRESS when speaking! English is a stress-timed language - getting the stress right is critical for being understood. For example: REcord (noun) vs reCORD (verb). We highlight stress visually because it's one of the hardest things for non-native speakers.

What do Pearls and Golden Eggs do?

Pearls of Wisdom (✨) are earned by practicing and answering correctly. Every 100 Pearls = 1 Golden Egg (🥚). Use eggs to unlock premium content, buy vocabulary packs, or redeem physical rewards in the Shop.

How does Snappy steal my pearls?

When you answer incorrectly, Snappy the Alligator chomps away 1 pearl! It's playful motivation to study carefully. Every 100 pearls lost = 1 Golden Egg disappears too. Don't worry - you can always earn them back!

What's my thinking style for?

Your quiz result (Efficient, Critical, or Creative) personalizes the app! We recommend specific features that match YOUR learning style. For example: Critical Thinkers get the Library origins, Creative learners get "Write Your Own" mode.
