Supabase Setup Guide

Phase 1: Get Your Database Ready (30 minutes)

Step 1
Create Supabase Account

Supabase is a PostgreSQL database with a beautiful UI. It's what powers Instagram, Netflix, and thousands of apps.

Step 2
Create New Project

Project Name:

snappy-english-prod

Database Password:

Choose a strong password and save it (you'll need it later)

⚠ī¸ You can't recover this password, so write it down!

Region:

Choose Europe West (London) for UK users, or the region closest to your audience

ℹī¸ After clicking "Create Project", Supabase will take 2-3 minutes to provision your database. This is normal - grab a coffee! ☕

Step 3
Get Your API Keys

Once your project is ready, you need to get two important values:

1. Project URL

  1. In your Supabase project, click Settings (gear icon on left)
  2. Click API
  3. Find "Project URL"
  4. Copy it (looks like: https://abcdefg.supabase.co)

2. Service Role Key (Secret)

  1. Same page (Settings → API)
  2. Scroll to "service_role secret"
  3. Click "Reveal" to show the key
  4. Copy it (long string starting with eyJ...)

⚠ī¸ IMPORTANT: Use service_role, NOT "anon public". Service role bypasses RLS for admin operations.

Step 4
Add Secrets to Base44

Now add these values as secrets in Base44:

Secret #1: SUPABASE_URL

https://your-project-ref.supabase.co

This is your project URL from Step 3

Secret #2: SUPABASE_SERVICE_KEY

eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9...

This is your service_role secret key from Step 3

📝 How to Add Secrets in Base44:

  1. Go to your Base44 Dashboard
  2. Click on your app
  3. Go to Settings tab
  4. Find Secrets / Environment Variables
  5. Click Add Secret
  6. Add SUPABASE_URL with your project URL
  7. Add SUPABASE_SERVICE_KEY with your service role key
  8. Save both secrets
Step 5
Verify Setup ✅

Checklist - Make sure you have:

Supabase account created
Project "snappy-english-prod" created
Database password saved securely
SUPABASE_URL added to Base44 secrets
SUPABASE_SERVICE_KEY added to Base44 secrets
