1

Click This Button

This opens the Translation API page in Google Cloud Console

2

Select Your Project

Make sure you're in the RIGHT Google Cloud project (the one in your GOOGLE_CLOUD_CREDENTIALS secret)

💡 Tip: Look at the top of the page - there's a dropdown to select projects

3

Click 'Enable'

Click the big blue ENABLE button on the Translation API page

💡 Tip: It will take 5-10 seconds to enable

4

Done!

The API is now enabled. Come back and test the dictionary!

Bonus: Check Service Account Permissions

If the Translation API is enabled but you still get errors, check your service account permissions:

  1. Go to IAM & Admin
  2. Find your service account (email from GOOGLE_CLOUD_CREDENTIALS)
  3. Make sure it has role: Cloud Translation API User or Editor
Why Does This Happen?

Google Cloud disables ALL APIs by default for security and billing control. Even though your credentials are valid, each API must be explicitly enabled.

The good news: Translation API is FREE for up to 500,000 characters/month. That's more than enough for your app!
